ABOUT US

Our Inception and Objectives

The Alamo Area Wood Carvers Club was founded in 1974. The founding members included club officers, President; Jesse V. Garcia, Vice-President; Julius Wilzky, and Secretary/Treasurer; Malcolm Greig. At the organizational meeting thirty two members signed up. Over the years the club has continued to promote the art of wood carving in the community.

The club demonstrates wood carving at many public functions and holds informational lessons and displays throughout the year.

Membership fluctuates in numbers from year to year as well as our meeting places. We are currently meeting at the Parman Branch Library.

The club’s objective is to provide an organization of fellowship in which there exists an exchange and sharing of ideas, patterns, and techniques of woodcarving.  The club is dedicated to developing and perpetuating an interest in and appreciation of the art form.  Members display their work in shows and galleries throughout San Antonio and other parts of Texas.  Some shows are entered by the club and on such occasions members are encouraged to display their carvings.

Joining a Club gives you access to one on one learning in the Art of Wood Carving

Club Projects

These are some of our members getting together to work on our Backdrop for a Carving Competition.

This is a Christmas scene that members participated in carving the pieces. We had Santa and his Sleigh flying through the air with all his reindeer.

These are some members enjoying some carving time and sharing ideas and knowledge at one of our meetings throughout the month.
